Spring is here which can only mean one thing: it’s allergy season! Having good air quality is important throughout the year, but it especially matters in the spring when allergens are rampant in the air. Since you can’t give everyone in your building allergy medication to get them through the next few months, you need to work on purifying your air as much as possible. Here are five ways to enhance your air quality during allergy season.
1 – Clean or Replace Your Air Filters
You may be able to go all winter without having to replace or clean your air filters, but in the spring, you need to do so at least once a month. If you run a pet clinic or a factory where filters are more likely to get clogged, you might need to clean them even more often than that. We can do this as part of your janitorial services if you work with RJC to maintain your property.
2 – Keep Your Windows Closed
You may be tempted to open your windows because of the nice weather outside, but doing so could let in more allergens. It’s best to rely on your air conditioner to bring in the air for now so it can pass through your air filters and keep your interior environment as clean as possible.
3 – Sanitize All Your Rooms
Proper sanitation techniques will do wonders for your air quality during this time of year. You may already have a sanitation process in place because of the recent flue and cold season, but if not, now is a great time to invest in one. Keep your surfaces clean and dust-free to get rid of the allergens and germs in your property.
4 – Keep Your Carpets Cleaned
Carpeting can turn into a big trap for allergens if it is not properly cleaned. Your janitorial team should vacuum your carpets at least once or twice a week, but they may need to do so once a day. This will depend on the traffic that comes through your building on a daily basis. Contact RJC to determine how often your carpets should be cleaned.
5 – Upgrade Your Air Ventilation
If your ventilation system is not sufficient for the size of your office, it’s time to upgrade. Invest in an energy efficient HVAC unit that will keep your air quality its best. You may also want to purchase special air purifiers to use throughout your ventilation if your building is close to an allergen-rich park or an area of heavy pollution. Take care of your employees with great air quality, and they will work better in the end.
