Commercial Vs Residential Carpets: Different Approaches to Cleaning

carpet cleaningMost business choose commercial carpeting for their offices and common areas. The reason for this is that commercial carpeting is better adapted to high traffic areas than residential carpets. Needless to say, there is quite a vast difference in the materials that are used in commercial properties and homes. The distinction is the materials is very important to a commercial carpet cleaning company, because not all carpets are cleaned in the same fashion. The flooring style and the kind of material used to make the carpet determine the type of treatment that should be used in order to clean the surface. The cleaning chemicals and equipment are also different.

Residential carpets

Residential carpets are designed to give comfort. People want to relax and feel comfortable in their homes and a plush surface is a good add on. Thick padding is important if the family has children. This is mainly because children will spend a lot of time playing on the floor. Home carpets come with a taller pile and a loose loop design as well. These two factors combine to give a plush feel to the home.

Industrial or commercial carpets

The biggest considerations when using commercial carpets are economy and durability. Compared to a home, an office setting may see much more foot traffic. As such the carpet should be able to handle the punishment. If a residential carpet is installed in a high traffic area it may deteriorate quickly, get flattened and the plush feel would be lost. Commercial carpets have tight looping and a shorter pile. These factors give it the density to spring back when the pressure is lifted. You can cut a commercial carpet in a number of sizes and it is not as expensive as a residential carpet, meter to meter. As a result, a commercial carpet can be incorporated into larger floor areas.

The one drawback is, when you go for economy and durability, you will have to sacrifice comfort. It is one of the reasons why you will rarely find commercial carpeting in residential homes. However, many home offices lay down commercial carpets because it is easier to move a chair around on them and they help to create a professional ambiance.

Hire a professional that specializes in commercial carpet cleaning

Engaging a company that specializes in commercial carpet cleaning is a better idea than embarking on a do it yourself project or using your regular office cleaners, for a variety of reasons. For one, companies that specialize in commercial carpet usually have specialized chemicals and equipment to protect your carpet from damage. These professionals are up to date on manufacturers approved cleaning methods and can transition from flooring to cubicle walls or any other carpeted surface.
