Post Construction Cleaning Step by Step

After a building is developed, a lot of cleaning work is needed to get it ready for the public. This is true for residential and commercial buildings alike. At RJC Enterprises, we offer post construction cleaning services for construction companies, property developers, real estate investors and general contractors in Maryland, Washington and Virginia. Here is a look at how post construction cleaning works, step by step.

Pre-Cleaning before Post Construction Cleaning

We may start the post construction cleaning process before construction is actually complete. This would involve cleaning areas after a certain service is complete, like cleaning the floors after installing drywall. The steps for these mid-project cleaning efforts vary based on how far along construction are. Contact our office to learn more about how we can clean throughout your building development.

Remove Large Debris

The first step in post construction cleaning is removing large debris left over from the construction. This includes wood, drywall scraps, empty paint cans, discard flooring, painter’s tape – anything you can think of that may be left at a job site. If the materials can be reused, we will gather them for the property owner or construction company to haul off. If not, we will recycle or dispose of the materials through the appropriate venue. Some chemicals require specialized disposal methods to protect the environment.

Clean Major Dust Sources

The next step in post construction cleaning is eliminating dust from the building. Countertops, floors, shelves and cabinets are usually caked with dust by the end of construction. We will remove the bulk of this dust so it does not get into the air during the detailed cleaning process. The surfaces will not be thoroughly sanitized yet, but they will be cleared of most of the dust and dirt.

Clean and Sanitize from Top to Bottom

Once most of the dust is out of the building, we can start the actual cleaning steps. We will work from the ceiling to the floor, making sure that every surface along the way is thoroughly wiped down. This includes:

  • Cabinets
  • Countertops
  • Doors
  • Door Trim
  • Appliances
  • Sinks
  • Mirrors
  • Chair Rails
  • Baseboards
  • Flooring
  • Windows
  • …and more

After we clear the dirt off these surfaces, we will sanitize them to create a healthy environment. We will use the right cleaning products for each surface. You will get the best cleaning results possible while still protecting the construction materials.

We work from top to bottom as a means of efficiency. If any dirt or dust falls from an upper-level surface, we don’t have to backtrack to clean the flooring, countertops, or railings. This allows us to get the job done as quickly as possible so you can open the building for use.

Conduct a Final Inspection

The last step in post construction cleaning is to complete a final inspection of the building. We will look for any dirt that may have been missed originally, and we will take care of those issues before we leave. All of your surfaces will shine like new, and you can start using the building as soon as you see fit.
