9 School Cleaning Tips for Summer Break: Part 1

Just because school isn’t in session during the summer doesn’t mean it should be left unattended. Your school can still get messy over summer break, even if you only have staff passing through from time to time. By modifying your school cleaning for the summer, you can minimize the cleaning you have to do before the students return. Here are some quick school cleaning tips for summer break that you can follow these next few months.

1 – Use This Chance to Deep Clean Your School

Schools don’t always get a chance to go through a "spring cleaning" like other businesses because they are still in use during the spring. The summer creates the perfect time to do the deep cleaning you haven’t had a chance for during the school year. Have your teachers clean out old assignments, packed cabinets, and other areas of clutter that don’t get taken care of while school is in session. Clean the tops of shelves and underneath furniture that never gets moved out. Think about what you do to spring clean your home and apply that same mentality to your school.

2 – Inspect Your Cleaning Equipment

If you have dedicated cleaning equipment for your school, use the summer to have it thoroughly inspected by a professional janitorial team. They’ll assess the efficiency of the equipment to make sure it is ready to go for the school year. If you need anything repaired, replaced, or upgrade, you can do that during this time. You won’t have to worry about going a week without cleaning equipment because there is no one in your school at this time.

3 – Transition to Green Cleaning

If you have been wanting to transition to green cleaning, this is a great opportunity to do just that. You can get new equipment and new cleaning supplies to use for the next school year. The summer also gives you a chance to test out green cleaning methods to ensure that they are effective enough for your needs. If you need something more abrasive or more aggressive, you can switch back before the students get in the classrooms.

4 – Clean Out Your Maintenance Janitorial Closets

The maintenance rooms and janitor’s closets usually turns into junk spaces in schools, where workers put items when they don’t know what to do with them. If you haven’t cleaned these areas in a while, take time to go through them in detail. Get rid of expired cleaning supplies or items you do not need any longer. If you have old furniture in storage that you do not plan to use, you can sell it or donate it over the summer to make room for more important items in your school.
